Former Football Player Honored by Guilford County Schools

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Former Elon University football player Ken Angel '85 was honored by Guilford County Schools and Ferndale Middle School upon his retirement at the end of the 2015-16 school year.

In recognition of Angel's 29 years of service, the gymnasium at Ferndale Middle School will be named in honor of Coach Kenneth C. "Kenny" Angel. During his tenure at the school Angel received a number of recognitions for his work, including being named the North Carolina Middle School Physical Education Teacher of the Year in 2003.

Angel was a defensive back on the Elon football team from 1981-84 and served as a team captain. In 1984, Angel was a second-team all-district peformer after compiling 40 total tackles, one interception, a sack, one fumble recovery and three pass breakups. The team captured the 1981 NAIA National Championship in his freshman season.
