ELON, N.C. – The Elon University baseball team will welcome back former players for an Alumni Weekend when the Phoenix takes on Hartford in a three-game series April 20-22, at Latham Park. Over the course of the weekend, the teams from 2006, 2008 and 2009 teams will be recognized, however, Alumni Weekend is open to all former Elon players from any era.
The 2006 squad won the program's first Southern Conference title and set an Elon record with 45 victories. In 2006, the Phoenix advanced to the Clemson Regional where the maroon and gold defeated Mississippi State 5-4 in the opening game to earn the program's first-ever NCAA Division I tournament win.
In 2008, Elon finished the season with a 44-18 overall record and won both the SoCon regular season and conference tournament titles. The tournament victory was the first at the Division I level for the program. That team advanced to the Cary Regional.
The 2009 team went 41-18 and was the SoCon regular season champion. Elon, which led the nation in home runs that season, advanced to play in the Atlanta Regional. At the conclusion of the year,
Baseball America ranked that 2009 squad 24th in the country, while the NCBWA rated the program 27th.
The full schedule of events will be announced as Alumni Weekend approaches, but a tentative schedule of some events is listed below.
Former players wishing to return for the weekend are asked to complete the online registration form that can be accessed at the link above.
