1/5/2019 12:05:00 PM

ELON, N.C. – Elon University head men's tennis coach Michael Leonard announced the signing of Dino Bonetta (Rijeka, Croatia) and Maxwell Zucker (Dallas, Texas) for the upcoming 2019 season on Saturday, Jan. 5.

"We are excited about the additions of Dino [Bonetta] and Maxwell [Zucker] to our team," said Leonard. "Dino has a ton of international experience and just needs to get in the fire and start competing in order to succeed at this level. Maxwell is a big guy who we think can develop into a good doubles player over time."

Bonetta joins the Phoenix program as a transfer from the University of Detroit Mercy. Prior to his time with the Titans, he was a two-time U18 National Championship finalist and was U16 National Championship finalist at the youth level. Additionally, Bonetta reached the quarterfinals and semifinals of two International Tennis Federation (ITF) tournaments at the age of 16. He was ranked as high as 88th in Europe at the U16 level and was on the top-50 race list to the European Masters. He also appeared in the final round of qualifiers in futures tournaments in Europe. When Bonetta was 17, he qualified for the main draw of a Pro Circuit tournament and narrowly lost 4-6, 4-6 to the No. 500-ranked player on the ATP tour. He also beat several players with UTR ratings of 13 and higher on the junior circuit.

Zucker arrives from Parish Episcopal High School in Dallas, Texas. He was a state qualifier in singles and doubles, a three time state qualifier for singles and an All-State singles quarterfinalist for two years at Parish Episcopal. Additionally, he led the Panthers to one state championship, as well as two state finalist finishes.

Elon opens its 2019 season on Saturday, Jan. 12 with a road trip to face the Duke Blue Devils. The first home matches of the season will be on Monday, Jan. 21, with a doubleheader against Appalachian State and North Carolina A&T at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
