Phoenix Finish Up ITA Carolina Regionals Over The Weekend

ELON, N.C. – Elon University women's tennis concluded the ITA Carolina Regionals on Sunday, Oct. 27.
 
Over the weekend, the Phoenix had five athletes win at least one of their matchups in singles, and one duo win pick up a win as well. Uma Nayar led the way for Elon, winning the consolation bracket for her flight.
 
THE RUNDOWN
In singles play, Uma Nayar led the way for Elon, winning the consolation bracket for her flight. The key match for Nayar came in the qaurterfinal round when she defeated Kendall Couch 6-1, 6-2 to advance to the semi-finals. Nayar would then go on to win the bracket after back-to-back walkovers.
 
Additionally in singles, Kianna Rizzolo picked up a win in her opening match, defeating Winthrop's Angela Georgieva 6-3, 6-1 to advance to the round of 16 in the tournament. Rizzolo followed that up by outlasting WCU's Jordyn King 7-6(5), 2-6, 6-2 to move on to the quarterfinals of her flight.

Nicole Shiau added two wins of her own for the Phoenix, winning her opening round and second round matches against Wofford. The second of the two wins was a strong performance for Shiau, who took down Wofford's Ansley Hardeman in straight sets 6-3, 6-3.
 
Alex Koniaev and Victoria Sladh also picked up wins in singles play during the tournament.
 
In doubles action, Nicole Shiau and Shauna Galvin combined to defeat Winthrop's Georgieva and Van Eck 8-4 to pick up the win in their first doubles match of the weekend. 
 
UP NEXT
The Phoenix will have a week off before returning to action on Nov. 8 when it travels to Greenville, N.C. for the ECU Carolina Invitational.
