WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Elon University volleyball got back in the win column with a straight-set victory over William & Mary Wednesday night, Oct. 30 at Kaplan Arena.
Â
"It feels great to get a win on the road," said head coach
Mary Tendler. "We played very relaxed and confident tonight even at the end when it was a tight set. We served and passed much better than we did last weekend, which was very beneficial. We look forward to welcoming back our alumnae and celebrating our two seniors this weekend as we battle two tough teams in Schar Center."
The Phoenix improves to 12-13 overall and 6-5 in conference play.

THE RUNDOWN
The opening set was neck-and-neck until a 4-0 run put the Phoenix in front, 16-12. The Tribe (6-15, 2-8) was able to pull even at 17-17 and a pair of service aces helped them wrestle away control at 22-21, but Elon closed out the set with four unanswered points.
Kellyn Trowse book-ended the stretch with a pair of kills,
Haylie Clark and
Natalie Cummins recorded a block, and W&M had a bad set.
Elon kept its foot on the pedal in Set Two, establishing an early 9-2 advantage. W&M was able to string together five points to get to within 13-11, but the Phoenix put to bed any hopes of a comeback. A kill by Cummins and two more from Clark sent the home team back to its bench, but the break didn't do the Tribe much good. The maroon and gold erupted for eight-straight points for a 25-13 tally and the 2-0 match lead.
After Elon scored the first six points of the third set, W&M fought back and eventually pulled ahead, 12-10. It looked like the Phoenix would cruise through another set as a Trowse kill opened a 7-0 push, but the Tribe answered with a 4-0 run of its own. The sides traded the lead down the stretch and were knotted at 23-23 whenÂ
Jenn Krzeminski had a successful attack. W&M then committed another set error as Elon earned the match point.
