ELON, N.C. – Elon University women's tennis conitnued its 2019 fall schedule with day one of the Jimmy Powell Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 5.

On day one, the Pheonix saw five athletes win their round one matchups in singles, and one duo win its matchups in doubles.
Sofia Edo led the way for Elon, picking up victories in both of her singles matches.

THE RUNDOWN
In singles play,Â
Sofia Edo picked up a victory over Longwood's Maria Saez 6-0 and 7-6(3). Edo also took down Richmond's Marta Buendia 5-7, 6-4 and 12-10 to earn her second singles victory on the day.

Additionally in singles,Â
Victoria Saldh defeated Longwood's Emma Nurgazieva in straight sets, earning the victory 6-1, 6-1. The win gave her a singles victory to go along with a win in her doubles match as well.

Kiana Rizzolo also picked up a win on day one of singles play, earning a win over Crystal Nzewi from Longwood 6-2 and 6-1.
Olivia Archer added a win of her own on the day, defeating Longwood's Jamie Breunig in straight sets (6-3, 6-2).

Uma Nayar rounded out the singles wins for the Phoenix, outlasting Longwood's Marija Venta 6-1 and 6-2 to earn the victory.

Uma Nayar highlighted day one, ousting Richmond's Lea Owens and Dessi Zlateva 6-4 to pick up Elon's lone doubles win on the day.
