ELON, N.C. – Elon University women's tennis concluded its fall tournament schedule at the ECU Pirate Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 9.

"I'm really proud of the way our team battled this weekend and finished strong with our fall tournament season. We faced lot of adversity and the team did a tremendous job at embracing it and raising their games. We will work hard over the next few months to fine tune our games and get ready for a very exciting season ahead."

Over the weekend, the Phoenix was dominant, winning 17 of its 22 overall matches.Â
Victoria Saldh led the way for Elon, winning the Doubles B bracket in combination with
Sofia Edo, while also finishing third in the Purple Singles bracket.
Uma Nayar also played an intergral role in a strong weekend for Elon, winning her flight in the Blackbeard Singles bracket.

In singles play,Â
Victoria Saldh led the way for Elon, taking home rhird place in the Purple Singles bracket. Saldh won matches over Charlotte's Pierina Imparato 4-6, 7-5, 10-4 and Rocio Safont 6-0, 2-6, 10-8 to secure the top-3 finish.

Additionally in singles, the Phoenix dominated the Blackbeard Singles bracket of the tournament, with
Uma Nayar winning the flight and
Nicole Shiau taking third. Nayar was on fire from the start, downing both NCCU's Ivana Dragovic and Charlotte's Immie Cowper in straight sets 6-2, 6-4. In the finals, Nayar defeated ECU's Ho Chiao Hsia 4-6, 6-2, 11-9 in a thrilling match that decided the Blackbeard Singles flight champion.

Nicole Shiau's third place finish in the Blackbeard Singles bracket came after wins over Charlotte's Zoe Radojicic and Immie Cowper in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4 and 6-2, 6-1 respectively.

Alex Koniaev finished in second place in the Purple Singles bracket, defeating both ECU's Michelle Ncube in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 and Charlotte's Rocio Sanfort in a thriller, 6-4, 2-6, 11-9.

In doubles action,Â
Vicoria Saldh and Sofia Edo dominated the Doubles B bracket, winning three consecutive matches to take home a doubles crown. To open the flight, Edo and Saldh took down NCCU's Sakharova and Pena 6-4 to advance to the semifinal round. The duo then defeated ECU's Dixon and Hsia 6-1 in a strong showing heading into the championship round. In the championship, Saldh and Edo finished strong, winning 6-2 over Charlotte's Radojicic and Scott.
