Phoenix Falls to Michigan in Ann Arbor

ELON, N.C. – Elon University men's basketball fell to Michigan 70-50 in Ann Arbor, on Friday, Nov. 15.
 
The Phoenix was led by senior guard Marcus Sheffield II who poured in 22 points and grabbed four rebounds.
 
Michigan was led by Jon Teske, who finished with 16 points and seven rebounds on the evening.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
Elon came out of the gates firing early in the first half, after back-to-back Marcus Sheffield buckets knotted the game up at 4-4 heading into the media timeout. After falling behind 7-4 coming out of the timeout, Kris Wooten knocked down a jumper that sparked a 7-0 Elon run. The Phoenix burst gave the Phoenix an 11-7 lead with 10 minutes to play in the first half.
 
From that point, Michigan went on a run of their own to retake the lead at 18-11. Both teams traded buckets for the final seven minutes of the half, and Elon entered the break trailing by just nine (31-22).
 
After an early second half run by the Wolverines, the Phoenix found itself trailing by 17 with just under 14 minutes to play in the game. Not to be deterred, Elon went on a 8-2 run of its own to cut the deficit to just 11 (51-40) with 11:10 left in the half.

Following another short Michigan run, the Phoenix traded buckets with the Wolverines for the final seven minutes of play.

NOTES
- With today's loss, Elon fell to 2-2 on the season.
- The Phoenix shot the ball 33.9 percent from the floor, including a 23.1 percent clip from long range.
- The Phoenix went to the line 10 times, making seven of its attempts from the charity stripe
- Elon forced 10 Wolverine turnovers, which lead to eight points off turnovers
 
UP NEXT
The Phoenix will be back in action on Wednsday, Nov. 20, when it travels to Chapel Hill, N.C. for a road contest with No. 9 UNC. That matchup will take place at 8:30 p.m. Following that contest, Elon will return home on Saturday, Nov. 23, for a 4 p.m. contest at Schar Center.
