Elon, N.C.- The Elon University women's basketball team recorded their first loss of the season on Sunday afternoon against Marist. The Red Foxes won the contest 63-55.
Four Elon players finished in the double digits for scoring,
Kayla Liles (13),
Jada Graves (12), Ariel Colón (11), and
Maya Johnson (10). Liles also totaled nine rebounds, three steals, and two assists.
For Marist, Rebekah Hand finished with a game-best 22 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
THE RUNDOWN
Elon opened the game with a 6-0 run. The Phoenix carried the momentum through the rest of the quarter, taking a 16-11 lead after the first ten minutes of play. Liles led the Phoenix with seven points.
Marist made a comeback in the second quarter, outscoring the Phoenix 24-7. The Red Foxes went on to take a 12-point lead (35-23) at the half.
After the Red Foxes took a lead as high as 14 in the third quarter, Elon managed to chip away at the Marist lead to come within three points in the final 10 minutes of the game. With nine minutes left in regulation (49-39), Colón hit a jumper that kickstarted a 13-6 run to make the score 55-52. Seven of the points were from Graves, which all came within a two-minute period.
The Red Foxes held the Phoenix to three points in the remainder of the game and went on to take the win.
NOTES
-Elon now holds a 2-1 record on the season.
-Over half of Elon's points came in the paint (32).
-The Phoenix scored 19 points off of the Red Foxes' 15 turnovers.
-Marist leads the overall series 2-0 against the Phoenix.

Elon will be on the road next Friday, Nov. 22 when they face UNC in Chapel Hill. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
