ELON, N.C. – It was Senior Day for Elon University volleyball on Sunday, Nov. 3, but the team came up short as College of Charleston claimed a 3-1 final at Schar Center.
"We appreciate all the people coming out for Senior Day to celebrate Nori [Thomas] and Elizabeth [Coil]," said head coach
Mary Tendler after the match. "The support this season has been amazing at all our home matches."
The Phoenix is now 12-15 overall and 6-7 in the CAA with three conference matches to go in the regular season. The Cougars move to 6-18, 3-9 win the win.

Kellyn Trowse kill and a pair of Charleston attack errors helped the Phoenix take an early 5-2 advantage in the opening set. After the Cougars knotted the score at 7-7, Elon regained control 10-7 with a 3-0 run highlighted by back-to-back
Leah Daniel kills. The sides were close down the stretch, but the guests edged the maroon and gold 25-22 for the 1-0 lead.
After Elon earned the first two points of Set Two, CofC responded with a 5-1 swing and never looked back.
Julia Crabtree converted an attack to start a 3-0 run that closed the gap 13-10. Following a timeout, the Cougars outscored the Phoenix 10-2 and went on to a 25-16 result for the two-set lead.
Even at 16-16 midway through the third set, Elon took over with a 7-1 push.
Natalie Cummins helped the effort with a pair of aces and a kill. Charleston finally halted the run at 23-18, but a
Nori Thomas point and a Cougar attack error got the Phoenix on the board.
Elon looked to force a fifth set, jumping out to a 9-2 lead in the fourth. However, CofC whittled away and used a a 5-0 run to get to within a point at 19-18. With ties at 23-23, 24-24, and 25-25, Charleston strung together two points to spoil Senior Day for the maroon and gold.

Haylie Clark,
Kodi Garcia, and Trowse all recorded double-doubles in the loss. Clark finished with 20 assists and 12 digs, Garcia ended up with 22 assists and 13 digs, and Trowse had 11 kills and 12 digs. Daniel totaled 16 kills, Cummins served three aces, and
Isabella Seman reached 17 digs. At the net, Cummins, Trowse, and
Elizabeth Coil each made three blocks. Thomas scored eight kills with a dig and a block, and Coil added three kills to her totals.
NOTES
-The teams split the regular season for just the second time in the all-time series. Both sides won on the road during the 2006 season.
-Elon went 7-5 on its home court this season.
-After Cummins set a new career high with two aces against UNCW on Friday, she bettered that effort with three this afternoon.
-Garcia's 13 digs are a season high. The junior also eclipsed 2,700 career assists this afternoon.
-The match featured 15 ties and only three lead changes.
UP NEXT
Elon closes out the regular season with three road matches, starting with a trip to Harrisonburg, Va. for a 7 p.m. game at James Madison this Friday, Nov. 8. The team then heads to Newark, Del. next Sunday, Nov. 10 to play a 1 p.m. match at Delaware.
