Runs Lift No. 16 Florida Past Elon

ELON, N.C. – A trio of four-goal runs by No. 16 Florida on Thursday, March 7, helped the Gators defeat Elon University women's lacrosse at Rudd Field by the final score of 15-5.
 
THE RUNDOWN
After a scoreless opening eight minutes, the two teams got on the board within 47 seconds of each other with Mae McGlynn tallying for the Phoenix (2-5) to knot the game at 1-1 with 21:07 left in the opening half. Jumping back on top less than 90 seconds after McGlynn's goal, though, Florida (2-3) went on a 4-0 run that spanned 13:02 of game action to take a 5-1 lead with 6:49 to play.
 
Though Meri Curtin scored on a free position, man-up advantage to end the run, UF started another 4-0 run lasted the last minutes of the second half and the opening three minutes of the second to take a 9-2 lead early in the second half.
 
Down the stretch, a pair of Elon goals by Gillian Curran and Quinn Daly sandwiched Florida's final run to put the score at 13-4 on the way to the 15-5 final.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
Paulina DiFatta had a strong day in the cage, making 10 saves in the loss. Elon was led by five players each scoring a goal apiece with Peighton Stone tallying her first collegiate goal and Meri Curtin scoring her first of the season. Both Quinn Daly and Emme Fernandez recorded a team-best three ground balls while Daly caused two turnovers.
 
Sydney Pirreca led Florida with three goals to go with two ground balls and a caused turnover. The trio of Lindsey Ronbeck, Grace Haus and Brianna Harris each scored twice with Harris also adding two assists for a team-best four points. Kaitlyn Dabkowski led UF with three ground balls and three caused turnovers and Sabrina Cristodero finished with seven draw controls.
 
UP NEXT
Elon will close a three-game homestand on Tuesday, March 12, when the North Carolina Tar Heels visit Rudd Field. First draw is set for 6 p.m.
