RICHMOND, Va. - Elon University sophomore
Kyle Frankel was selected as the Most Outstanding Performer at the 2019 CAA Men's Tennis Championship on Thursday, April 25, in a vote by the league's coaches.
Frankel went 3-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles to help Elon capture its first CAA Men's Tennis Championship. Competing at the No. 4 singles position, the sophomore defeated Hofstra's Jan Leithner, 6-2, 6-3, to clinch the match in the Phoenix's 4-0 win over the Pride in the quarterfinals. He followed with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over William & Mary's Oren Vasser as Elon got past William & Mary, 4-2, in the semifinals. In the championship against top-seeded UNCW, Frankel beat Bruno Caula, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) to tie the match at 3-3, setting the stage for the Phoenix's 4-3 win.

Camilo Ponce went 2-0 at the No. 2 position, posting victories in both the semifinals against William & Mary and in the finals against UNCW.
This season, Frankel has posted an outstanding 21-3 record in singles during the spring season and has currently won 14 straight matches. His 21 wins this year is a new program record dual match singles wins in a single season. In doubles action, he owns a 12-5 record individually and has a 12-4 record at the No. 2 position with Ponce.
After winning its first CAA Championship on Saturday, Elon will now await the 2019 NCAA Men's Tennis Championship selection show on Monday, April 29, at 6 p.m. to find out who it will face in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.
