Elon Set To Open Regular Season Against Canisius

ELON, N.C. – After finishing up the preseason with back-to-back wins, Elon University women's soccer will host Canisius on Thursday, Aug. 22, at 7 p.m. at Rudd Field.

LAST TIME OUT
- Closing out the preseason on a high note, Elon picked up a 2-0 shutout win over Wofford. 
- Early goals by Bethany Harford (9') and Jessica Carrieri (13') powered the Phoenix to a win in their second and final exhibition match of the season. 

SCOUTING CANISIUS
- Canisius enters it's fourth season under head coach Todd Clark, and boast a roster filled with fifteen upperclassmen and seven starters returning from their 2018 squad.
- Senior Madeline Beaulieu led the Golden Griffins in scoring last season, posting six goals and a total 14 points.
- Keeper Alana Rossi begins her final season at Canisius, and is their all-time leader for shutouts with 17.
 
THE SERIES
- This marks the first time that Elon will host Canisius for a regular season contest. 

PRESEASON ALL-CAA LISTS
-Elon was picked to finish ninth in the CAA this upcoming season, the league announced earlier in the offseason.
- Hannah Doherty was picked as a Preseason All-CAA honoree for the upcoming 2019-20 season, after earning CAA Second Team accolades last year.

LEFTOVERS FROM 2018
-The Phoenix finished the 2018 season with an overall record of 3-10-4 and a 1-7-1 record in conference play.
-Senior Taylor Paradoski led the team in scoring last season, scoring four goals for a total of nine points.
- Junior keeper Valentina Estrada made 15 starts in goal last season, leading the team with 71 saves and a .724 save percentage. She also earned 4 clean sheets for her efforts.

UP NEXT
- The Phoenix host Canisius at Rudd Field this Thursday, Aug. 22, at 7 p.m. Elon will then host High Point at Rudd Field on Sunday, Aug. 26 at 7 p.m.
