Phoenix Three Game Winning-Streak Comes To An End Against Furman

Box Score ELON, N.C. – Elon University women's soccer had its three game winning-streak snapped on Sunday, Sept. 1, in a 3-0 loss to Furman in Greenville, S.C.
 
The Phoenix fell to 3-1 overall on the season with the loss, while Furman moved to 3-1 with the win.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
Early in the first half, Elon's defense played the biggest role. In the opening 20 minutes of the contest Elon held Furman scoreless despite surrendering three shots and three corner kicks.  
 
Furman took a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute after Erin Houlihan scored on assists from Jasmine Greene and Ellie Laxer. The play marked the only score that either team would allow in the opening half.
 
The Paladins got off to a quick start in the second half, scoring in the 46th minute. The play was made by Houlihan on this occasion as well.  
 
The Phoenix nearly cut the lead in half in the 48th through 56th minutes, as Hannah Doherty and Hailey Tucker put together a combined three shots on frame that forced saves by Furman's keeper.
 
Furman pushed its lead to three goals in the 75th minute of play after Kyndal Anderson header snuck into goal off a long cross.
 
In the match, the Phoenix racked up 11 shots including six on frame and six corner kicks. In goal for Elon, Katrin Hauksdottir made three saves.

 
UP NEXT
Elon travels to Richmond, Va. for a road contest against the Spiders. That match is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 5, at 4 p.m.
