Box Score ELON, N.C. – Elon University women's soccer moved to 6-1-1 on the season after finishing with a dominant 8-0 win over Hampton on Sunday, Sept. 15.
With the win, the Phoenix moved to 6-1-1 overall, marking the best start for the program since 2015. Hampton moved to 1-5 with the loss.
HIGHLIGHTS
Elon jumped out to a fast start, getting on the board in just the eighth minute of action.
Sarah Bevington got things going with her third goal of the season that found the lower left corner of Hampton's net.
Jessica Carrieri scored the first goal of her collegiate career in the 23
rd minute off an assist from Bevington. Her shot, which found the upper left corner of the net, extended Elon's lead to 2-0 early in the first half.
The Phoenix extended its lead to 3-0 in the 26
th minute when
Carson Jones fired a rocket into the lower left corner of the net for her team-leading fifth goal of the season.
Elon pushed its lead to 4-0 in the 37
th minute after
Molly Mahoney scored her first goal of the season. Two minutes later,
Claire Broderdorp scored her first career goal to move the lead to 5-0 with just under ten minutes to play in the first half.
Broderdorp gave the Pheonix a 6-0 lead heading into halftime after her shot found the lower left corner of the net in the 42
nd minute. Mahoney and Hodges were both credited with assists on the play.
Elon came out firing in the second half, scoring its seventh goal of the game in the 55
th minute of action. This time it was
Avery Davis joining the action, firing a shot right down the middle of the net.
Laura Mitchell scored the game's final goal in the 58
th minute, off an assist from
Grace Kiser. The play extended Elon's lead to 8-0 midway through the second half.
In the match, the Phoenix racked up 14 shots, including 12 shots on goal.
Valentina Estrada was credited with her first win in goal for the Phoenix, making seven saves.

Elon travels to Greensboro, N.C. to take on UNCG on Thursday, Sept. 19. That match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
