Elon Battles, But Falls to UNCG 4-3

Box Score ELON, N.C. – Elon University women's soccer moved to 6-2-1 on the season after falling to UNCG on Thursday, Sept. 19.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
Elon's defense played the biggest role early in the first half, not allowing the Spartans to score despite three shot attempts.
 
UNCG's Cienna Rideout scored the contests opening goal in the 21st minute to take a 1-0 lead.
 
The Phoenix knotted things up at 1-1 in the 35th minute on Kara Kimberl's first goal of the season. The goal came off a beautiful pass from Taylor Paradoski to set up Kimberl perfectly for the equalizer.
 
UNCG's Gabi Santora scored in the 42nd minute to take a 2-1 lead heading into the half
 
Jessica Carrieri's goal in the 57th minute retied things at 2-2 early in the second half. The chance came after Carrieri timed her run perfectly, got behind the Spartans defense and found the back of the net for the second time this season.
 
A few moments later UNCG's Isabelle Blomdahl scored to put the Spartans back on top 3-2 in the 57th minute.
 
Carrieri scored her second goal of the game and third of the season in the 60th minute to equalize things at 3-3. The play knotted things up with just over 30 minutes remaining in the contest.
 
Santora scored her second goal of the game in the 88th minute to give UNCG a 4-3 win.
 
In the match, the Phoenix racked up 18 shots, including 6 shots on goalKatrin Hauksdottir was credited with six saves on the night.

UP NEXT
Elon hosts UNCW in their first conference match of the season on Thursday, Sept. 19. That match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at Rudd Field.
