BOSTON, Mass.- The Elon University women's basketball team made a fourth-quarter comeback against Northeastern to force the contest into overtime on Friday, Jan. 17. However, the Phoenix came up short against the Huskies, 68-65.
Ariel Colón led the Phoenix offense, totaling a career-high and game-best 23 points while shooting 9-15 from the field.
Jaylin Powell was the other double-digit scorer for the Phoenix, recording 16 points.
Northeastern's Shannon Todd paced the Huskies with 18 points, while Alexis Hill posted a double-double. The forward tallied 17 points and 16 rebounds.
THE RUNDOWN
With 50 seconds left to go in the fourth quarter,
Kayla Liles hit her second of two consecutive shots from deep to give the Phoenix its first lead of the night (54-53) and erase a Husky lead that went as high as 16. After a three from Shannon Todd, Powell made the final field goal of regulation to tie the score at 56.
The Huskies went ahead 62-56 at the start of overtime. Elon responded with an 9-6 run, but Northeastern came out on top and got the win.
Northeastern was quick to take the momentum early on in the game, outscoring the Phoenix 13-0 in the first eight minutes of play. That lead lasted until the final minute of the fourth quarter.
NOTES
-The Phoenix now has an 8-8 (3-2 CAA) record on the season.

Saadia Munford closed the first quarter with a midcourt buzzer beater to make the score 16-8.
-10 of Colón's points came in the second quarter.
-Elon collectively shot .367 from the field.
-The maroon and gold's bench outscored the Huskies', 24-15.
-The Phoenix now leads the overall series, 7-4.
