ELON, N.C. – Elon University women's tennis won its second match of the season, 7-0, against Belmont Abbey on Wednesday, Jan. 22. Earlier in the day, the Phoenix fell to No. 5 Duke, 7-0.

With today's win, the Phoenix moved to 1-0 in the all-time series against Belmont Abbey. Meanwhile, today's loss to Duke marked the fifth time Elon has come up short against the Blue Devils.

Nicole Shiau, who combined withÂ
Shauna Galvin to earn a doubles win (6-0) over Sophia Boatright and Alexandria Smith. In singles play, Shiau defeated Erica Dorn in straight sets (6-1, 6-1) to secure the victory. Against Duke, Shiau came up short in singles play, falling to Summer Dvorak 6-3, 6-0.

Shauna Galvin picked up her second singles win of the season on Wednesday, defeating Belmont Abbey's Carlie Davis 6-0, 6-0 to earn the victory. In doubles play against Duke, Chloe Beck and Summer Dvorak outlasted Galvin and Shiau, 6-1.

Olivia Archer each picked up wins, with Rizzolo defeating Madelyn Schott and Archer defeating Talia Semaan. Rizzolo and Archer each earned their victories in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 and 6-4, 6-2 respectively. In doubles play, Rizzolo and Archer defeated Elliott Peterson and Talia Semaan, 6-0, to secure the doubles point.
The tandem of
Victoria Saldh and
Sofia Edo defeated Morgan Zahnd and Sylvia Goldsmith to help the Phoenix go a perfect three for three in doubles against Belmont Abbey. Against Duke, the duo came up just short, falling to Meible Chi and Hannah Zhao 6-3.
