ELON, N.C.- The Elon University women's basketball team fell to Delaware, 65-56, at Schar Center on Sunday, Jan. 26.
Ariel Colón finished the contest with the team high in points (16), while
Saadia Munford led the Phoenix in assists (4) and steals (3). Munford also recorded 11 points for her second double-digit scoring performance in three games.
On defense, three Elon players tallied a pair of blocks:
Kayla Liles, Colón, and
Micaela Ryan.
Nicole Enabosi paced the Blue Hens with a game-high 21 points, followed by Jasmine Dickey (17) and Kayla Shaw (17).
THE RUNDOWN
Elon gained momentum at the start of the contest, outscoring the Blue Hens 11-2 in the first five minutes of play. That lead was the only one that belonged to the maroon and gold as Delaware answered with an 16-5 run to regain the lead that they maintained for the remainder of the contest.
The Phoenix came within single digits of the Blue Hens in the fourth quarter. With 4:23 left on the clock,
Jaylin Powell knocked down a jumper to ignite a 6-0 run that also included back-to-back layups from Liles (60-51). However, Delaware held on for the rest of the game to get the win.
NOTES
-The Phoenix now has a 9-10 (4-4 CAA) record on the season.
-Elon scored 21 points off of Delaware's 18 turnovers.
-The maroon and gold's bench outscored the Blue Hens' 17-6.
-The Phoenix now holds a 7-5 overall record against the Blue Hens.
