Elon Ends First CAA Road Trip Against Hofstra

ELON, N.C. – Elon University men's basketball will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 4, when it travels to Hempstead, N.Y. for a 4 p.m. matchup with Hofstra.

COVERAGE
• Elon's contest against Hoftsra will be streamed live on FloSports.
• Listen to the Elon IMG Sports Network coverage on Phoenix All-Access or on the TuneIn app. Taylor Durham and Brian Morris will have the call from David S. Mack Sports Complex, with the pregame show beginning at 3:30 p.m.

THE MATCHUP
• This marks the 12th time in program history that Elon and Hofstra will meet in a regular season contest.
• In the most recent meeting, the Pride defeated the Phoenix 102-61 on Feb. 7, 2019.
• Elon trails Hofstra 3-8 in the overall series.
 
ABOUT ELON
• So far this season, Elon is off to a 4-11 start, with all four wins on the year coming at Schar Center.
• The Phoenix is led by senior guard Marcus Sheffield who is posting 16.9 points per game to go along with 4.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists per contest.
• Rookies Hunter McIntosh and Hunter Woods are combining to average 21.5 points and 8.9 rebounds per outing.
• Simon Wright ranks second on the team in rebounding at 5.3 per game, adding 6.5 points per game as well.
• Elon is led by first year head coach Mike Schrage, who spent two seasons as an assistant at Ohio State before becoming Elon's head coach.
• Freshman Guard Hunter McIntosh garnered CAA Rookie of the Week honors, the league announced on Dec. 16. McIntosh was selected by the conference after scoring a team-high 15 points, while adding three assists, two rebounds and two steals in Elon's dominant 91-60 win over North Carolina Wesleyan. McIntosh was on fire all game, going 5-of-5 from downtown in a contest that saw Elon tie a Division I program record with 19 made threes.
• Freshman forward Hunter Woods was named the CAA Rookie of the Week on Dec. 9. Woods earned the honor after averaging 16.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in games against Kennesaw State and High Point.
• The Phoenix have no seniors on the roster with the exception of graduate transfer Marcus Sheffield, who earned a Preseason All-CAA honorable mention.
• Additionally, the Phoenix made six new additions to the squad for 2019-20 in first-year players Hunter McIntosh, Hunter Woods, Zac Ervin and Ben Daugherty. Elon also added two transfers in Marcus Sheffield II (Stanford) and Jerald Gillens-Butler (Butler).
 
SCOUTING HOFSTRA
• The Pride is off to an 11-5 start this season, after losing to William & Mary 88-61 in its most recent outing
• Hofstra is in its seventh season under head coach Joe Mihalich, who led the team to a National Invitational Tournament (NIT) appearance last season.
• The Pride is led by Desure Buie, who leads the team in scoring (22.6 ppg) and assists (5.5 apg).
  
LAST TIME OUT
• In its most recent outing, Elon fell to Northeastern 77-68.
• The Phoenix was led by senior guard Marcus Sheffield, who dropped 17 points and eight rebounds on the evening. Freshman guard Hunter McIntosh chipped in 17 points, three rebounds and three assists in the loss.
 

UP NEXT
Following the contest against Hofstra, Elon will continue CAA play against Charleston. The Phoenix's matchup with the Cougars will take place at Schar Center on Thursday, Jan. 9, at 7 p.m.
