NEWARK, Del.- The Elon University women's basketball team fell to Delaware on Friday, Feb. 21, 73-60.

"Although we did not come out with the win today, I am proud of this team," said head coach
Charlotte Smith. "We had some shining moments and definitely can build and learn from this loss. Right now, all we can do is focus forward and get prepared for Sunday."
THE RUNDOWN
Kayla Liles got the Phoenix going, scoring six points in Elon's 8-2 run at the start of the game. The Blue Hens answered with a 7-0 run to regain the lead, but the quarter finished with Elon having a two-point advantage (17-15).

After the Blue Hens went up 29-22 at the half, the two teams traded the lead six times in the third. With 1:18 on the clock, Ariel Colón knocked down a jumper to kickstart an 8-3 run to put Elon within one point of Delaware (45-44) going into the last 10 minutes of play.

As both teams continued to trade baskets, the Blue Hens picked up the pace with just over five minutes on the clock. As time ran out, Delaware outscored Elon 18-6 to eventually take its largest lead of the afternoon (13) and get the win.

HIGHLIGHTS
Jada Graves and Colón paced the Elon offense, tying for the team high in points (12), while
Brie Perpignan and
Saadia Munford followed with 10 apiece. Graves also tied her season best in field goals (5).

On defense,
Maya Johnson posted two of the three Phoenix blocks in addition to Graves and Liles matching the game high in steals (3). Johnson has now recorded at least two blocks in eight games this season.

Nicole Enabosi finished the game with a double-double, totaling 24 points and 11 rebounds on the day.
