PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- The Elon University women's basketball team suffered a 66-47 loss to Drexel on Sunday, Feb. 23.
"We lost to a very good team today," said head coach
Charlotte Smith. "We cannot take anything away from Drexel. They are very good. It is important for us to regroup and refocus in order to get back to playing Elon team basketball."
THE RUNDOWN
Elon took its only lead of the game when
Saadia Munford scored the first two points of the afternoon. The Dragons then went on to outscore the Phoenix 34-11 to take a 21-point advantage at the half (34-13).
After Drexel took its largest lead of the game (32), the Phoenix answered with 17-4 run to bring the Dragon lead to the lowest it had been since the second quarter (18) and make the score 56-38 (6:23, 4Q). Munford led the run with 10 points, followed by
Brie Perpignan (5) and Ariel Colón (2).
Elon managed to tack on nine more points as time ran out, but the Dragons maintained their lead and got the win.
HIGHLIGHTS
-Munford finished the game with a team-high 12 points, while Colón and Perpignan followed with eight apiece.
Jada Graves also chipped in six.

Micaela Ryan tied her career-bests in steals (2) in addition to matching her season high in assists (2).
-Three Drexel players scored in the double digits, Keishana Washington (16), Mariah Leonard (15), and Bailey Greenberg (12).
