Women’s Basketball Completes Regular-Season Sweep Against Charleston, 85-57

ELON, N.C.- The Elon University women's basketball team recorded its second regular-season sweep of the season on Sunday, Feb. 9 when it came out on top against the College of Charleston, 85-57.The Phoenix earned its first win against the Cougars on Jan. 10 when it won at Schar Center, 90-48.
 
The Phoenix also defeated UNCW for the second time during this regular season on Friday, Feb. 7, 60-57. Prior to that, Elon won a 77-53 contest against the Seahawks on Jan. 12.
 
Four Elon players scored in the double digits. Saadia Munford led both teams with 19 points, followed by Ariel Colón (16), Jada Graves (13), and Ariana Nance (12). Colón finished the game just one field goal shy of her career high with eight.
 
Tyler Collins paced the Cougar offense, totaling 18 points on the day. Latrice Perkins and Deja Ford also scored in the double digits with 12 and 11.

HIGHLIGHTS
Charleston got going early on in the contest, opening the game with a 7-2 run. The Phoenix managed to cut the Cougar lead to one twice over the course of the quarter, but the 10 minutes ended with Charleston having a two-point advantage (16-14).  
 
The Phoenix took its first lead of the game in the final two minutes of the half. With the score 30-27 and 1:38 remaining until halftime, Tyja Traore made a fast break layup to bring the Phoenix to within one point of the Cougars (30-29). Colón then chipped in the final two points of the quarter to give Elon a 31-30 lead before the teams headed into the locker room.
 
Elon picked up its momentum in the third, nearly doubling its score while holding the Cougars to 14 points (61-44). That momentum stayed with the Phoenix for the remainder of the game as Elon outscored Charleston 24-13 in the final 10 minutes of play to get the win.    

NOTES 
-The Phoenix now holds an 11-11 (6-5 CAA) record on the season.
-With the win, Elon has now won 13 consecutive games against Charleston.
-Elon outscored the Cougars in the paint, 42-18.
-The maroon and gold shot 50 percent from deep, making five shots on 10 attempts. The team also recorded a .517 field goal percentage.
-15 of the 30 points in the third quarter came Colón and Munford.
-Elon scored 20 points off of Charleston's 20 turnovers.
-The Phoenix's bench outscored the Cougar's 38-9.
-With the win, the Phoenix owns a 21-14 overall record against the Cougars.
