KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – Adel Vadkerti and Cosette Anderson led the way for the Elon University women's golf team in the opening round of the Kiawah Island Classic on Sunday, March 1. Vadkerti shot an even-par 72 at the Osprey Point Golf Club, while Anderson was not far behind with a round of 74 (+2). After day one, Vadkerti finds herself in a tie for 18th while Anderson is tied for 48th in a field of 264.
 
The Phoenix as a team had a strong opening round of 299 (+11), good for a tie for 15th, behind leader College of Charleston (A) at 281 (-11). Individually, Audrey Kennett finished the day at three-over par after shooting a 75, while Faith Francioso and Sophia Mancuso were solid in their own right, recording rounds of 78 (+6) and 79 (+7), respectively.

HIGHLIGHTS
Vadkerti and Anderson each poured in five birdies in the round, while Kennett and Francioso had four. The Phoenix took advantage of the par fives at Osprey Point, playing them at a combined four-under for the round, highlighted by Anderson who birdied all of them to lead the entire field in par-five scoring average. Kennett had an impressive birdie on the par-three third hole, which was one of only seven on that hole today.
 
In the individual tournament being played on the par-72 course at Cougar Point, Emily Nash is tied for the lead after posting a four-over 76. The freshman led the field with 15 pars through the first 18 holes.

UP NEXT
Play continues tomorrow with a 9 a.m. shotgun start for the second round. Elon will tee off from holes seven, eight, and nine.
