GLENCOE, Ala. – Apple Ngamwong finished with a two-under par 214 and was named Co-Champion of the Chris Banister Golf Classic on Tuesday, Oct. 12 at the RTJ course at Silver Lakes in Glencoe, Ala.
 
The Elon University women's golf team had its best round of the Classic on Day Three, combining to shoot a two-over par 290. The effort helped the Phoenix move from fourth to second place and just three strokes behind tournament host Jacksonville State, who won the team title with an 896 (+32). Murray State rounded out the top three teams with a 37-over 901.

HIGHLIGHTS
Ngamwong finished even with Murray State's Payton Carter. A sophomore from Bangkok, Thailand, Ngamwong made 13 pars with three birdies on Tuesday. Her score of two-under 70 was also her best outing of the Classic. Next for the Phoenix was Adel Vadkerti and Annabelle Ackroyd, who both tied for fourth with seven-over 223s. Vadkerti also turned in her best round as she posted five birdies, including three in a row on holes two through four. Ackroyd also put together consecutive birdies on the sixth and seventh holes to help the junior from Calgary, Alberta, Canada move up in the standings. She ended her day with a two-over 74.

Svarin Yuenyong shot a five-over 77 through the final 18 holes to tie for 28th with a 245 (+29). Andrea Asmundsdottir carded an 84 to tie for 31st with a 247 (+31), and Charlotte Scully was one stroke behind her and in 33rd place with a 248 (+32). The freshman from Chadds Ford, Pa. fired an 80 for her final round.

Vadkerti and Ngamwong tied for second in par-3 scoring with a 2.83 average. Ngamwong led the 43-player field in par-4 scoring with an even 4.00, and Ackroyd tied for second with an average of 4.10. Ngamwong led the maroon and gold with eight birdies and 40 putts for par over the course of the three-day tournament.

This marks the first career title for Ngamwong and is also Ngamwong's fourth top-5 finish in her time at Elon.
