ELON, N.C. – Elon University women's tennis concluded its fall season on Saturday, Oct. 30, at day two of the Elon Invite at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
"I was proud of the way the team competed and improved throughout the fall," head coach
Elizabeth Anderson began. "We will work hard on what we learned from these tournaments and use it to help us going into the spring season. I was also very proud of Sarah for going undefeated in her flight this weekend. She showed a lot of resilience and positive determination with her performance."

THE RUNDOWN (SINGLES)

Sarah Allen led the way for the Phoenix in singles play, finishing the tournament a perfect 3-0 record and winning the Acorn singles flight. Allen opened play with a 0-6, 6-1, 6-4 three-set victory over NCCU's Isabelle Exsted, before defeating WM's Lisa Fukutoku via walkover in her second match. In the final, Allen took down VT's Lily Hackbirth 6-2, 6-4 in straight sets to win the flight.

Sibel Tanik picked up two wins of her own in the Gold East flight. Tanik opened play with a 7-6(5), 6-2 decision over NCCU's Jade Houston, before outlasting VT's Erika Cheng 6-1, 7-5 to advance to the final.

Lizette Reding logged one singles victory at the Elon Invite, defeating NCCU's Jade Houston in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3.

Olivia Archer chipped in a singles win of her own, defeating VT's Kirsten Husted 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 in a three-set battle. The victory advanced Archer to the semifinals of the Powell East flight.

Victoria Saldh outlasted NCCU's Kennedy Hill in three sets, 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 to earn her lone singles win of the tournament.

Alison O'Dea rounded out the singles wins for the Phoenix, taking down NCCU's Hannah Gaines 6-4, 6-1in the Powell West draw.

Olivia Archer led the way for the Phoenix in doubles play, picking up two wins over the weekend. The duo opened with a win over VT's Hackbirth and Husted 8-2, before outlasting WM's van Meeteren and Stange 8-7(3) in their second match.

Lizette Reding also picked up two wins, defeating NCCU's Hill and Gaines (8-6) and WM's Saric and Fernald (8-5) respectively.

UP NEXT
The Phoenix begins its spring season on Saturday, Jan. 15, when it travels to Chapel Hill, N.C. for an 11 a.m. matchup with UNC. That match serves as the first of four straight road contests to open the season.Â
