GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Elon University women's golf team is bringing home a new trophy as the Phoenix edged Western Carolina on Tuesday, Oct. 5 to win the 2021 Aggie Invitational.
North Carolina A&T hosted the invitational at Bryan Park in Greenbsoro, N.C.
"I'm very proud of the team and how they played consistently throughout both days," head coach
Chris Dockrill said on the win. "Each girl competed and contributed to this win. The pieces are coming together and we're looking forward to competing at Jacksonville State's Classic next week."
HIGHLIGHTS
Apple Ngamwong,
Andrea Asmundsdottir and
Adel Vadkerti won their pairings to secure the victory for the maroon and gold. Ngamwong earned a 3-and-2 decision over WCU's Elizabeth Lohbauer. Asmundsdottir also picked up a 3-and-2 win over Kaitlyn Wingnean, and Vadkerti turned in a 2-and-1 effort versus Madison Issacson.
Lotte Fox came up just short against Kaitlyn Wingnean by a score of 4-and-3.
Annabelle Ackroyd and WCU's Victoria Ladd did not finish their round.
In the consolation bracket, Appalachian State claimed a third-place finish with a 3-2 win over the host Aggies. UNC Asheville defeated Howard 3-2 and Alabama State carded a 3.5-1.5 decision versus North Carolina Central.
UP NEXT
The Phoenix travels to Glencoe, Ala. on Oct. 10-12 to play in the Chris Banister Golf Classic, hosted by Jacksonville State at Silver Lakes.
