Cross Country Finishes Season at NCAA Southeast Regional

LOUISVILLE – The Elon University cross country programs closed out their team seasons on Friday afternoon, Nov. 12, at the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships, hosted by Kentucky, at the E.P. Tom Sawyer Park.
 
The Elon women finished its 2021 cross country campaign with a ninth-place finish and scored 279 points. NC State won the regional championship with 34 points, beating out fellow ACC and interstate rival North Carolina, who had 73 points as the runner-up. Host Kentucky (103), Furman (126) and Liberty (160) rounded out the top-five team scores in the women's 6K race.
 
In the men's 10K race, the Phoenix was 21st overall with 579 points. Wake Forest took the regional team title on the men's side with 47 points, beating Furman who was second with 66 points.
 
Women's Recap
Maria Ahm was Elon's top runner at the regional meet as the junior came in with a time of 21:01.2 and was 30th overall, five spots out from earning All-Region honors.
Maggie Springer was 53rd overall in the race as the Chapel Hill, N.C., native clocked a time of 21:31.8.
Leandra Lorenz and Jette Beermann were 64th and 68th at the meet, respectively. Lorenz crossed the finish line with a time of 21:45.0 while Beermann posted a time of 21:50.8.
Hannah Preeo (72nd, 22:00.7), Anna Twomey (96th, 22:21.5) and Hannah Miller (104th, 22:28.4) rounded out the Phoenix competitors in the 6K race.
 
Men's Recap
Aidan Tierney concluded the season by leading the Phoenix men again by posting a new personal-record time of 31:20.4 – third-fastest time in school history – while finishing 84th.
Zane Jackson was the next Phoenix runner to cross the finish line as the sophomore clocked a time 31:51.6 – also moving into the program's top-10 performance list – as he finished 106th overall.
Andrew Miller was the third Elon runner to finish with a time of 32:10.3 in 122nd. Tamer Metwalli was 138th with his time of 32:23.7.
Daniel King finished 160th with a time of 33:00.6 while Mark Szilagyi was 207th with his time of 35"02.4 to close out the Elon runners at the meet.
