Skyler Davis Named CAA Football Special Teams Player Of The Week

Richmond, Va. – Elon University junior kicker Skyler Davis has been named CAA Football Co-Special Teams Player of the Week after accounting for 18 points and making each of his five field goal attempts in a 43-28 win over No. 25 Rhode Island to close the season Saturday.

Davis had three field goals of longer than 40 yards and moved into second place on Elon's career field goal list with 51.

With Elon leading 14-7 after one quarter of play Saturday, Davis capped a drive with a 44-yard field goal to put the Phoenix ahead 17-7. He added a 32-yarder later in the period that gave Elon a 27-7 lead.

In the third quarter, Davis connected from 36 yards away to put Elon ahead 30-10. Rhode Island closed to within two scores but Davis concluded back-to-back fourth quarter drives with field goals of 43 and 46 yards as Elon extended the lead to 36-17.

Davis also made all three of his extra point attempts to finish with 18 points. With 51 made field goals, he ranks fourth nationally among active FCS kickers in career makes. He is eight shy of Andrew Wilcox's Elon record 59 career field goals from 2005-08. He tied Wilcox's school record of five field goals made in a game, a mark that Wilcox achieved in both 2007 and 2008, doing so against Georgia Southern each time.

The Elon football team concluded the 2021 season with a record of 6-5 overall. The Phoenix ended in sole possession of third place in the league standings and defeated a pair of ranked teams during the season (then No. 22/21 Richmond and No. 25 Rhode Island).
