ELON, N.C. – Elon University women's basketball improved to 6-2 on the season on Sunday, Nov. 12 when it delivered a 14-point victory over Davidson, 65-51.

I am proud of our team effort tonight," said head coach Charlotte Smith. "We have battled through a lot this past week as a team and showed great resilience tonight. Our defensive effort and intensity in the second half was very disruptive, which was the game plan."

THE RUNDOWN
-Davidson took the momentum early, opening the game with a 9-2 run. The Wildcats pushed its lead to 11, but three points from
Ariana Nance made it an eight-point game going into the second quarter (7-15).
-With 3:12 left in the half,
Vanessa Taylor hit a jumper that ignited a 5-0 run that would bring the Phoenix up to 22 points (22-26). Davidson outscored Elon 4-2 in the remaining time to make the halftime score 24-30.
-The Phoenix answered in the second half. Elon went on an 8-0 run in the third quarter to capture its first lead of the game 32-30.
-The two sides traded points until a put-back and-one by
Brie Perpignan shiftesd momentum in favor of the Phoenix with 1:30 remaining. Elon would close out the third quarter with a 43-39 lead into the fourth quarter.
-Elon's defense shut down the Wildcats in the fourth quarter. The Phoenix defense allowed only six points in the first six and a half minutes of the final quarter.
-Perpignan sealed the game for Elon at the free throw line, sinking the final two points in Elon's 65-51 win. Â

NOTES
-Perpignan posted a team-high 13 points, with 11 of them coming from the free throw line for a game, career and team high on the season. The guard also had three steals and one block.
-
Kayla Liles finished the game just one point behind Perpignan (12) in addition to recording a season-best five steals for a new single-game high for the Phoenix this season. She also tied
Evonna McGill for the team-best in field goals, shooting 4-of-9 from the floor.
-For the third game in a row,
Peyton Carter has delivered eight points for the maroon and gold, with six of them resulting from three pointers. The senior went 2-of-2 from beyond the arc to match her career high.
-Elon now stands at 6-2 on the season, while the Wildcats fall to 5-3. The Phoenix also now holds an 11-19 all-time record against Davidson.
