ELON, N.C. – The Elon University football team treks to William & Mary this Saturday, March 20, for its first CAA Football road contest of the 2021 spring campaign. The Phoenix and the Tribe are set to kickoff at 4 p.m. from Zable Stadium.

Series History
• The Phoenix and the Tribe have met on the football field five times going into Saturday's matchup. William & Mary holds a 3-2 lead over Elon in the series going back to 2014 when both teams became CAA Football foes.
• Both teams played a five-overtime thriller in the most recent contest between the two squads in 2019 at Elon. The Tribe came away with a 31-29 victory as the game marked the most overtime sessions played by an FCS team in 2019 and is just one short of the NCAA record for an all-FCS matchup.

Last Time Out
• Elon is coming off a 38-14 setback versus Richmond in its second CAA Football of the season last Saturday, March 13, at Rhodes Stadium.
• Quarterbacks
JR Martin and
Justin Allen threw for touchdowns in the contest for the Phoenix with Allen's being the first of his career. The Phoenix signal callers ended the game combined for 148 total yards passing with Allen adding another 18 on the ground.
• Defensively, Elon sacked Richmond quarterbacks a season-high three times in the game.
Jarquez Bizzell
recorded 1.5 sacks in the contest while
Torrence Williams had a sack for the third time in as many
weeks.
Marcus Hillman also recorded a half-sack.

Bryce Graves led the Phoenix in tackles for the second straight week, totaling 15 with 1.5 TFLs.

Consecutive Starts
• Going into the William & Mary, Elon has five active players riding a consecutive start streak of at least 10 or more games.
• Senior nose guard
Tristen Cox leads the way with 38 consecutive start followed by defensive end
Torrence Williams with 15.
Michael Purcell has started the last 14 games on the offensive line along with
Nick Cerimele at 10.
Ty Sponseller has also made 10 straight starts.

About William & Mary
• William & Mary is coming off an open date after its originally scheduled road game at James Madison on March 13 was postponed due to COVID-19 protocols within the Dukes' program.
• The Tribe opened its season the prior week with a 21-14 setback at Richmond, as the Spiders earned the narrow victory with a late touchdown in the fourth quarter.
• Offensively, quarterback Hollis Mathis accounted for both of the Tribe's touchdowns – one on the ground and one through the air – and completed 18 of 28 passes for a career-high 204 yards.
