ELON, N.C. – Elon University baseball will play its first game in nine days as the Phoenix (5-8) hosts Wake Forest for a non-conference meeting this Tuesday, March 23 at Latham Park. The game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start.

THE SERIES
- Wake Forest owns a 61-38 advantage in the all-time series that dates back to 1909

- The teams last met during the 2019 season with the sides splitting the two meetings. Both teams won on the road.
- Elon took the first game 6-3 in Winston-Salem, N.C. against the then-No. 20 Demon Deacons.
Dean McCarthy earned the win after allowing one run on two walks with a punch out.
Ty Adcock closed out the game, throwing 1.1 innings of one-hit ball with a walk and two strikeouts to secure the save. Starter
Kyle Brnovich tossed 4.2 innings with three hits, two runs, four walks, and five strikeouts for the no decision. At the plate,
Cam Devanney went 2-for-4 with a long ball, a triple, two runs, and two RBIs.
Joe Satterfield also posted a multi-hit effort as he finished 2-for-5 and scored a run.
- The teams met again the next day at Latham Park, with the Deacs avenging their loss with a 13-7 final.
Adam Spurlin was charged with the loss after allowing three runs, two of them earned, on a pair of walks. Starter
Mason Daniels went 4.1 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits and three walks while striking out three Wake Forest batters. The Phoenix used a total of 10 different pitchers on the day. Adcock led Elon's bats with a 3-for-4 effort. He drove in three runs and scored another with one double. Devanney also had a 3-for-4 performance at the plate, hit a pair of doubles and came around once.
Nick Cicci hit a late two-run drive to left in his only plate appearance.
- Elon and Wake Forest were scheduled to play on March 9 at Elon, but the game was postponed due to COVID-19 testing protocols within the Deacs program.
SCOUTING THE DEMON DEACONS
- The Deacs are also 5-8 this season.
- Wake Forest hosted Georgia Tech for a three-game ACC series this past weekend at David F. Couch Ballpark. The Deacs won the series opener 6-2, but dropped the next two games 3-1 and 8-1 to lose the series.
- Elon is the second CAA school Wake Forest will play this season. The Deacs opened their 2019 campaign at home against Northeastern on Feb. 19-21. Wake defeated the Huskies 8-6 in Game One and 9-0 in Game Two, but dropped a close Game Three 14-11. The series marked the first meeting between the two programs.
- Michael Turconi leads Wake with a .351 average. Brock Wilkren follows with a .275 clip and has team highs with four home runs and 11 RBIs. Next is Chris Lanzilli, who is hitting .255 with three long balls and six runs driven in. Freshman right-handed pitcher Reed Mascolo is expected to get the start. He owns an 0-1 record and a 2.70 ERA with seven strikeouts and five walks in four appearances and one start. He's allowed five runs, two of them earned, through 6.2 innings pitched.
- As a team, the Deacs are hitting .221 with a .348 slugging percentage and a .329 on-base percentage. Wake's arms own a collective 4.27 ERA and are holding opposing batters to a .236 average.
- Infielder Bobby Seymour and pitcher Ryan Cusick garnered preseason All-American honors from Perfect Game and Baseball America. Seymour also added preseason All-American honors from D1 Baseball. The pair were named to the Golden Spikes Preseason watch list.
ABOUT THE PHOENIX
- Elon ranks second in the CAA in hit by pitch (19), home runs (12), sacrifice bunts (8) and sacrifice flies (7).

Cole Reynolds is 13th in the nation with three sac flies,
Alex Iadisernia ranks 27th in the country with 1.69 hits per games, and
Garrett Stonehouse is ranked 29th in the country as one of the toughest batters to strike out.
- Iadisernia enters Tuesday's game with a .423 average. Following him are
Willie Havens at .296, Stonehouse at .295 and Reynolds at .293. The Phoenix are hitting .259 as a team.

Spencer Bauer is expected to start for the maroon and gold. He is 0-0 this season with a 2.92 ERA through four appearances and three starts. The Manasquan, N.J. native has recorded nine strikeouts through 12.1 innings pitched.
- Elon's arms own a combined 4.83 ERA with opposing teams hitting .299.
ELON TAKES TWO OF THREE FROM THE AGGIES
- After dropping the series opener 8-7 on a two-RBI walk-off hit to host North Carolina A&T on March 12, Elon pulled even in the series with a 10-4 decision in Game Two at War Memorial Stadium on March 13.
- The Phoenix then hosted the rubber match on March 14, holding on for a 10-9 final to win the series 2-1.
- Iadisernia had a solid weekend against the Aggies. The Jackson, N.J. native hit .727 (8-for-11) with a 1.273 slugging percentage and a .786 on-base percentage. He homered twice and added six runs scored, three RBIs and three walks to his series totals. He also turned in a perfect 4-for-4 day in the series finale. He leads the maroon and gold with 22 hits, 34 total bases and eight bases on balls.
UP NEXT
Elon is scheduled to open CAA play at James Madison this Friday-Sunday, March 26-28. The Phoenix was supposed to host JMU this past weekend but the series was canceled due to COVID-19 testing protocols within the Dukes (3-6) program.
