THE SERIES
- Elon and UNCG will meet for the second time in three weekends.
- The Phoenix leads the all-time series 37-23, though the team has lost eight of its last 11 to the Spartans (6-2) after losing the opening weekend series, 2-1.
- Three of the last six matchups have been decided by one run.

ELON WINS 2-OF-3 VS. VCU IN WILD WEEKEND
- Elon used two walk offs and two immaculate innings to take down A-10 preseason favorite VCU at Latham Park last weekend.
- Weather pushed last Friday's series opener to Saturday, creating the first doubleheader for Elon since May 12, 2019 versus UNCW.
- After VCU scored 3 runs in the 8th to take a 6-3 lead in Game One, Elon responded with two runs in the eighth and ninth, punctuated by an Anthony Galason walk off home run to win, 7-6.
- In Game Two, freshman Ben Simon struck out seven in 6.2 IP while throwing an immaculate inning in the fifth. However, four VCU runs with two outs in the seventh led to a 4-3 Rams victory. Closer Tyler Davis struck out six in four relief innings to earn the win.
- After allowing three runs with two outs in the eighth inning of Sunday's rubber match, Galason laced a double into right-center to walk it off for the second time in as many days.

SCOUTING UNCG
- After losing the season opener to Elon, UNC Greensboro has won five of its last six, with the only loss coming to High Point in Game Two of a doubleheader at Truist Point (home of the High Point Rockers, ALPB).
- UNC Greensboro was picked to finish tied for third in the SoCon Coaches Poll, and picked to finish fourth in the media poll.
- After seven innings, UNCG led Charlotte (RV) 4-2 on March 2nd in their midweek game. Charlotte's offense exploded in the eighth for five runs in the top of the inning. UNCG stormed back in the bottom of the frame with five runs as well, highlighted by a Hogan Windish grand slam to put UNCG in the lead for good.
- UNCG has played two different teams in midweeks that have received votes in national polls. The Spartans came back with nine runs against NC State after being down 12-7 to take down the 12th-ranked Wolfpack on Feb. 23.
- The Spartans are ranked second in the country in triples (5), eighth in walks (55), and 12th in stolen bases (16).

WALKOFF HERO...TIMES TWO!
- Last weekend was Galason's first walk-off hit since an RBI double in the bottom of the 11th gave Elon a 2-1 win over UNCW on May 12, 2019. The game marked the regular-season finale for the maroon and gold.
- The Colts Neck, N.J. deposited the first pitch he saw over the left field fence to win the series opener against the Rams, 7-6.
- He came up again in a game-winning situation on Sunday in the 10th with the game tied, 7-7. He then smashed an 0-1 pitch to right-center to score Connor Offshack to win 8-7 and take the series.
- The weekend of walk offs earned D1Baseball's Top Play of the week, beating out Tres Gonzalez's diving catch into the bullpen for Georgia Tech.
- Galason was named the CAA Player of the Week for March 2, the first Elon player to gain weekly honors this year. It's the second time Galason has been selected for a weekly award in his career (Rookie of the Week on April 8, 2019).
- The outfielder now has two homers in seven games in 2021. He had four homers in his previous 74 career games played.

LATE INNING OFFENSE
- Coming into last weekend, Elon had scored just one run in the seventh inning or later.
- Over the weekend, Elon and VCU combined to score 17 runs in the seventh or later, 16 more than both teams had combined for coming in.
- Elon scored four runs in Game One and one in Game Three to total five on the weekend.

IMMACULATE INNINGS
- In the fifth inning of Game Two against VCU, Simon threw nine pitches, nine strikes and recorded three strikeouts. The immaculate inning was the first of the year for the Phoenix.
- The very next day, Brian Edgington did the same exact thing. He threw nine pitches, nine strikes and three strikeouts.
- One of the rarest feats in baseball, only 94 pitchers in MLB history have recorded an immaculate inning, with the first coming on June 4, 1889 by John Clarkson for the Boston Beaneaters against the Philadelphia Quakers.

STARTING ON THE RIGHT FOOT
- Elon starters have combined for 32.1 innings pitched and just six earned runs in 2021. Those numbers are good for a 1.67 ERA, a full run below the team average.
- Of Elon's four losses, all four have come from the bullpen, which has a 5.96 ERA in 28.2 IP.

UP NEXT
Elon will be back home next Tuesday, March 9 as the Phoenix host Wake Forest for a 5 p.m. game.
