RICHMOND, Va. – For the second time this season, redshirt junior
Leandra Lorenz of the Elon University women's cross country team was named the Colonial Athletic Association's Women's Runner of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday, Oct. 4.
Lorenz broke the program's school record in the 6K at the Paul Short Run last Friday, Sept. 30, on the campus of Lehigh University. The Kleinmachnow, Germany, native posted a time of 20:02.9 in the Women's College Gold portion of the meet, breaking Scolasticah Kemei's previous school-record time of 20:25.67 in 2019. Lorenz led the Phoenix for the second time out of three meets this season and finished 21st overall out of 416 competitors. She also bested her previous personal-best time of 21:04.8 that she set at the Coaching Tree Invitational in her previous race.
This is Lorenz's second weekly award of the season. She was recognized on Sept. 6 by the CAA after winning the 4K race at the Elon Opener.
The Phoenix closes out its regular season at the Pirate Invitational hosted by East Carolina on Friday, Oct. 14.
