RICHMOND, Va. – Elon freshman Brynne Gordon was named the Coastal Athletic Association Women's Cross Country Co-Runner of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. Gordon shared the weekly honor with William & Mary's Molly Weithman.
 
Gordon led the Phoenix at last Friday's Queen City Invite at McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte, finishing runner-up in the women's 5K with a time of 17:23.8. Her performance ranks as the eighth-fastest 5K time in Elon program history and came in just the second race of her collegiate career.
 
Gordon's performance helped Elon capture its second consecutive team championship to open the season. The Phoenix placed four runners among the top five and finished with 24 points, 39 ahead of runner-up Charlotte.
 
Tuesday's honor is the first CAA weekly award of Gordon's career and marks the second consecutive week an Elon runner has earned the distinction. Senior Abby Beville was named CAA Co-Runner of the Week following her victory at the season-opening Elon Opener.
 
Gordon has opened her collegiate career with back-to-back runner-up finishes. She made her Elon debut by placing second in the 4K at the Elon Opener on Sept. 4, clocking 14:02.2 as the Phoenix swept the top four individual places and won the team title.
