FARMVILLE, Va. - Elon University men's tennis won its first match the season on Thursday, Feb. 17, defeating Longwood, 5-2, in Farmville, Va.

HIGHLIGHTS
- Daniel Martin led the way for the Phoenix, defeating Jourdan Kast in straight sets 6-2, 6-1. It was the team-best second singles win of the season for Martin and moved him to 1-0 in the No. 3 position. Martin also combined with Chung-Han Tsai to defeat Rosen Naydenov and Luis Reis 6-1 in No. 1 doubles play. The duo is now 2-2 on the young season.
- Camilo Ponce earned the victory in No. 4 singles, defeating Yoav Weinberg 6-2, 6-2. It was the first win in singles play this season for Ponce and advanced him to 1-2 in the No. 4 spot.
- Nicholas Campbell picked up his first singles win of the year on Thursday, taking down Cagigas in straight sets 6-0, 6-4 in No. 2 singles.
- Ben Zipay rounded out the singles victories for the Phoenix, as the sophomore outlasted Luis Reis 6-0, 5-7, 13-11 in a three-set battle.
- The combination of Ponce and Kyle Frankel clinched the doubles point for Elon, as the pair took down Ernest Rocabert and Cagigas 7-5 in No. 2 doubles play.

Elon will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 19, when it hosts Campbell in a 1 p.m. matchup at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
