ELON, N.C. – Elon University baseball will make the short drive to Winston-Salem, N.C. on Tuesday, March 1 for a 4 p.m. meeting with Wake Forest at David F. Couch Ballpark.

THE SERIES
- Wake Forest is ahead in the all-time series, 62-39.
- The Demon Deacons (8-0) have a 15-10 edge when playing in Winston-Salem.
- The teams split their home-and-home series last season as both sides won on the road.
- The Deacs took a March 23 game at Latham Park by a score of 4-2. Alum Nick Cicci drove in a pair of runs in the seventh, but Elon couldn't get any closer.
- After trailing 2-0 through five innings, Elon scored five runs in the top of the sixth to earn a 5-2 road win on May 8 at David F. Couch Ballpark.
- The teams will meet again on April 5 this season at Latham Park.

SCOUTING THE DEMON DEACONS
- Wake Forest started off its season with a 25-3 win over Lafayette on Feb. 18. The Deacs then rounded out their Opening Weekend with a 9-1 victory over Georgetown on Feb. 19 and a 6-4 final against VCU on Feb. 20.
- Last Tuesday against UNC Greensboro, Wake eclipsed 20 runs again as they topped the Spartans, 23-3.
- The Deacs remained perfect with a four-game sweep of New Jersey Tech this past weekend in Winston-Salem. Wake outscored the Highlanders 44-17 in the series.
- Wake is batting .390 as a team with 6-of-9 starters hitting .400 or better and 8-of-9 starters hitting over .300. Jake Reinisch owns a .500 clip, Adam Cecere is next at .484, and Pierce Bennett and Brendan Tinsman are both batting .464.
- The Deacs own a 2.70 team ERA and are holding opponents to a .220 average against them. Their pitchers have tallied 80 strikeouts so far.
- Sophomore right hander Reed Mascolo will get the nod for Wake.
- Wake is tied for the national lead in win percentage and ranks second in walks (70), batting average, hits (115), home runs (22), home runs per game (2.75) and on-base percentage (.511). The Deacs are also third in runs (107) and slugging percentage (.705), fourth in scoring (13.4) and fifth in doubles (23).
- Wake was picked to finish sixth in the Atlantic Division in the ACC Preseason Coaches' Poll.

ABOUT THE PHOENIX
- Elon improved to 4-3 after a series sweep of Longwood this past weekend.
- After a 9-7 win last Friday, the Phoenix clinched the series victory with a 4-3 final on Saturday. Originally scheduled for a 1 p.m. start, Sunday's game was pushed back to 4 p.m. due to inclement weather in the area. After the Lancers tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the seventh inning, Carlos Marte and Alex Duffey each drove in a run as Elon held on for a 5-3 final.
- Elon improved to 7-1 all-time versus Longwood, including a 6-1 mark when playing the Lancers at Latham Park.
- It was the first series win and the first series sweep of the season for the maroon and gold.
- The Phoenix is currently tied with James Madison for fourth in the CAA standings. Charleston is atop the league at 6-1 overall, William & Mary is second at 3-1, and UNCW is third at 5-2.
- Justin Cassella made his first three appearances of the season over the weekend, starting all three games versus Longwood. The Bernardsville, N.J. native hit .455 (5-for-11) in the series with one home run, two doubles, five runs, two RBIs, three walks and a pair of stolen bases.
- Kyle Greenler (2-0) earned two wins in the series. He held the Lancers scoreless through 5.2 innings of work, allowed two hits, didn't walk anyone and struck out seven.
- Elon is hitting .224 as a team. Marte ownes a team-best .667 average, followed by Cassella at .455 and Willie Havens at .292.
- On the mound, Elon's pitchers have a combined 3.34 ERA with opponents hitting .259 against them. The Phoenix arms have recorded 74 strikeouts so far this season.
- Sophomore left hander Cole Reynolds is expected to make his first career start on the mound.
- Through games played on Feb. 27, the Phoenix ranks second nationally in strikeout-to-walk ratio (5.69), third in walks allowed per nine innings (1.89), eighth in double plays (8), 13th in sacrifice bunts (6) and 14th in double plays per game (1.14).

UP NEXT
Elon will host Toledo for three games at Latham Park this weekend, March 4-6. The series opens with a 4 p.m. start on Friday, followed by a 2 p.m. first pitch for Game Two on Saturday. Sunday's finale will begin at 12 p.m.
