ELON, N.C. – Elon University baseball will host the first two games of a weekend series versus UNC Greensboro this Friday and Saturday, March 11-12 at Latham Park. Game One is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start and Game Two a 2 p.m. start. The Phoenix (6-6) will then head to Greensboro, N.C. for a 2 p.m. series finale at UNCG Baseball Stadium on Sunday, March 13.

THE SERIES
- Elon leads UNCG 37-26 in the all-time series.
- The teams opened the 2021 season in Greensboro, N.C. After Elon won the Opening Day game 7-4 on Feb. 19, UNCG answered with an 8-3 win in Game Two on Feb. 20 before capturing the series with a 3-2 decision in the finale on Feb. 21.
- Elon and UNCG met again on March 5-7 as the Phoenix hosted the first and third games that weekend. The Spartans (7-6) won all three games by scores of 7-3, 9-3 and 14-6.
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
- UNCG earned a series sweep of Towson last weekend in Greensboro. The Spartans then hosted No. 22 NC State on Tuesday, but came up short 13-5. UNCG then bounced back with a 7-3 win at Gardner-Webb on Wednesday.
- Hogan Windish leads UNCG's starters with a .412 average. Kennedy Jones is next at .393 and Zack Budzik is batting .352.
- The Spartans are hitting .303 as a team with a .429 slugging percentage and a .386 on-base percentage. The team has combined to hit 22 doubles, three triples and 10 home runs so far this season.
- UNCG will go with senior left-hander Jared Mathewson for Friday's series opener and senior right-hander Austin Parsley on Saturday. Their Sunday starter has yet to be determined.
- The Spartans' pitching staff owns a combined 5.20 ERA with opponents hitting .324 against them. They've allowed 93 runs (66 earned) on 152 hits and 52 walks while striking out 103 batters through 114.1 innings.
- UNCG ranks 23rd in the nation with 139 hits, is 38th with 10 double plays turned and 42nd in both batting average and shutouts (1).
- Jones is 11th in the country in RBIs (20) and 15th in hits (22). Pres Cavanaugh ranks 17th in triples (2) and Parsley is 18th in ERA (0.47).
- UNCG was picked to finish fifth in the SoCon's Preseason Coaches' Poll and was sixth in the league's Preseason Media Poll. Parsley and Windish represented the Spartans on the Preseason All-SoCon Second Team.
ABOUT THE PHOENIX
- Elon is coming off an 11-3 home loss to No. 3 Notre Dame on Tuesday, March 8.
- The Fighting Irish broke open the game with eight runs in the top of the third and another two in the fourth.
- Ian Evans (0-2) was handed the loss after getting roughed up for six runs (three of them earned) on four hits. He did not issue a walk and added one strikeout in the 2.2-inning start.
- Griffin Arnone and Parker Haskin entered as late pinch hitters and singled in both of their at bats, with Haskin also driving in a run. Justin Cassella hit 1-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Charlie Granatell finished 1-for-3 and Samuel Frontino and Alex Iadisernia both scored a run each.
- Among Elon's starters, Carlos Marte is batting .353, Granatell follows at .320 and Iadisernia owns a .289 average.
- Elon is hitting .217 as a group with a .346 slugging percentage and a .348 on-base percentage. The Phoenix has tallied 18 doubles, three triples and eight long balls.
- Joe Savino is expected to make the start on Friday, Cole Reynolds will get the ball on Saturday and Brian Edgington will start on Sunday.
- Elon owns a team ERA of 4.42 with opponents hitting .279. The Phoenix has given up 70 runs (52 earned) on 120 hits and 23 walks while striking out 113 batters over 106.0 innings.
- The Phoenix ranks second in the country with 1.95 walks allowed per nine innings. The team is also third in strikeout-to-walk ratio (4.91) and 23rd in sacrifice bunts (8).
- Edgington and Kyle Greenler are both 42nd nationally with two wins each while Iadisernia is 45th with two sacrifice flies.
