Elon Set For Tuesday Afternoon Trip To Coastal Carolina

ELON, N.C. – Elon University men's tennis is back in action on Tuesday, March 15, when it travels to Conway, S.C. for a 1 p.m. matchup with Coastal Carolina.
 
GAMEDAY COVERAGE

THE MATCHUP
- Tuesday afternoon marks the 10th meeting between Elon and Coastal Carolina.
- The Phoenix currently leads the all-time series 8-1.
- Elon currently holds an undefeated 3-0 mark in matches played in Conway.
- In the most recent meeting between the two programs, Elon defeated Coastal Carolina, 5-2, on March 30, 2021.

SCOUTING ELON
- Elon enters this contest with a 7-4 overall record after defeating Morgan State, 6-1, in its most recent outing.
- Daniel Martin is leading the way for Elon in singles play, as the sophomore has a 7-2 overall record, including a 6-0 mark in the No. 3 slot. Martin has also combined with Chung-Han Tsai to pick up the most doubles wins on the team with six.
- Kyle Frankel ranks second on the team in singles victories with six. Frankel currently holds a 2-0 mark in No. 2 singles and is on a team-best six-match winning streak.
-  Nicholas Campbell currently ranks third in singles wins with five. Campbell sits at 5-4 in the No. 2 spot and is on a four-match winning streak.
- Chung-Han Tsai, Ben Zipay and Camilo Ponce currently sit at fourth on the team with four singles wins each. Zipay holds a 4-1 mark in No. 6 singles and has won his last four matches, while Tsai is also 3-1 in the No. 6 position and has won each of his last three outings.
- Nicholas Condos and Esteban Penagos round out the singles wins for the Phoenix with one a piece.
- The combination of Nicholas Campbell and Nicholas Condos has started the year off strong for Elon, posting a 6-1 mark as a duo. The tandem is 5-0 in the No. 3 doubles slot after earning wins against Duke, Liberty, Campbell, Gardner-Webb and Furman.
- The tandem of Kyle Frankel and Ben Zipay is undefeated in doubles play, as the duo holds a 3-0 mark overall and in the No. 2 position.
- The duo of Chung-Han Tsai and Daniel Martin were named CAA Doubles Team of the Week on March 2, after winning both of their matches last week against North Carolina A&T and Gardner-Webb. Tsai and Martin are leading the team with five doubles wins and hold a 5-2 mark overall this year.
- Elon returned three All-CAA honorees this season in Kyle Frankel (1st Team; 2nd Team Doubles), Camilo Ponce (2nd Team; 2nd Team Doubles) and Chung-Han Tsai (2nd Team Doubles).
- Elon is led by Michael Leonard, who will begin his 18th season at the helm of the program in 2021-22. Leonard has won conference Coach of the Year honors seven times, including most recently being named CAA Coach of the Year in 2019.
 
SCOUTING COASTAL CAROLINA
- Coastal Carolina holds a 7-6 overall record after defeating Radford, 5-2, in its most recent outing. The Chanticleers moved to 6-0 at the Stevens Tennis Complex this season with the win.
- Coastal Carolina is led by Chris Powers who is in his 18th season at the helm of the program. Powers has led the program to two NCAA Tournament appearances and has been named the conference Coach of the Year on three occasions.
- Bastien Huon is leading the way for the Chanticleers on the court, as he holds a 7-4 record in No. 1 singles play early this season. Huon is also currently on a three-match winning streak.
- In doubles play, the combination of Huon and Niccolo Rossi hold the top mark, as the duo sits at 6-4 overall with a 5-2 mark in the No. 2 slot.
 
LAST TIME OUT
- Elon extended its winning streak to seven on Sunday, March 13, defeating Morgan State, 6-1, at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
- Kyle Frankel led the way for Elon in singles play, sweeping Mikeal Carpenter 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 1 position. Frankel has now won six straight matches and sits at 6-5 overall this year.
- Daniel Martin clinched the match for the Phoenix, defeating Rhajzon Rankins 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 3 spot. The win was the six straight for Martin as he sits at a team-best 7-2 in singles play and holds a perfect 6-0 mark in the No. 3 spot.
- Nicholas Campbell earned his fourth consecutive victory, making quick work of Makkijah Brown 6-0, 6-0 in No. 2 singles. The performance marked the fifth win of the year for Campbell.
- Camilo Ponce got back on track, outlasting Nihit Rawal 6-2, 1-6, 10-4 in a three-set battle. Ponce earned his fourth win of the year with the performance and moved to 3-4 in the No. 4 spot.
- Ben Zipay rounded out the singles wins for Elon, taking down Sebastian Lopez in straight sets 6-4, 6-4. The win marked the fourth straight for Zipay and moved him to 4-1 in No. 6 singles this season.
- The combination of Campbell and Nicholas Condos clinched the doubles point in the match, beating Carpenter and Rawal 6-2 in the No. 1 position. The win moved the duo to a team-best 6-1 this season and marked its fourth win in a row.
- The tandem of Frankel and Zipay got the ball rolling for Elon in doubles play, making quick work of Lopez and Martial Kawunde 6-1 in the No. 2 slot. With the win the pair maintained an undefeated mark in doubles play, moving to 3-0 on the year.
 
THE FACES OF 2021-22
- The Phoenix welcomes back seven returners from last year's squad in seniors Kyle Frankel, Camilo Ponce and Chung-Han Tsai, juniors Nicholas Campbell and Nicholas Condos, and sophomores Luke Queiroz and Ben Zipay.
- Elon will feature three newcomers in freshmen Esteban Penagos and Joseph Dougherty, as well as Minnesota transfer Daniel Martin.
- Penagos joins the Phoenix from Laurel Springs High School, where he earned a top-300 ITF ranking.
- Dougherty comes to Elon from North Carolina Cyber Academy where he garnered a top-200 national ranking (18s) and was considered a 4-Star Player on Tennis Recruiting.
- Martin joins Elon from the University of Minnesota where he posted an 8-8 mark in singles play last season.
 
COMING SOON
- The Phoenix will then return home for a March 25 matchup with Charlotte, before traveling to Clemson S.C. to battle Clemson on March 27.
- Elon rounds out March with a double header against Davidson in N.C. Wesleyan respectively on March 30.
