Women’s Lacrosse Prepares to Face High Point and VCU This Week

ELON, N.C.-- Elon women's lacrosse returns to Rudd Field for a 5 p.m. matchup against High Point on Wednesday, March 16 before heading back on the road to face VCU in a makeup game at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 19.

COVERAGE
Live stats and a stream will be available for both games. 
 
THE SERIES
-The series between Elon and High Point is tied 3-3, including a 16-12 win by the Panthers in the most recent matchup on March 27, 2019. 
-The Phoenix leads the overall series against the Rams 1-0. Elon defeated VCU in the first meeting between the two teams 19-3, which took place last season on April 11.  

ABOUT ELON­­
-The maroon and gold is 2-4 on the season, winning its past two matchups against Campbell (22-20) and Furman (21-9).
-In its most recent game against the Paladins, Sammy Fisher and Hannah McCarthy led the Phoenix scoring with four goals apiece, while Margaret Stephan and Cierra Hopson followed with hat tricks. Gillian Curran also posted a career-high six ground balls to tie for the game high in addition to pacing both teams in draw controls (6) and tying for the game high in caused turnovers (3).
-For their performances against the Camels and Paladins, Curran and Fisher were named last week's Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Defensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week.
-The Phoenix is led by ninth-year head coach Josh Hexter.  
 
SCOUTING HIGH POINT
-The Panthers have yet to win a game this season (0-5).
-High Point came up short against Mount St. Mary's in its last game on March 5 (11-6). Abby Hormes paced the Panther scoring with a hat trick, with Emma Genovese, Lexi Jack, and Mandy Brockamp also chipping in one goal apiece. Goalie Taylor Suplee also led the team in ground balls (5) in addition to tying for the team high in caused turnovers (3).  
-The Panthers were named the preseason favorites in the 2022 Big South Conference Preseason Women's Lacrosse Poll. Hormes was tabbed the Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, while Jenna Kraft was also selected to the Big South Preseason All-Conference Team.
-The head coach of High Point is Lyndsey Boswell.
 
SCOUTING VCU
-The Rams enter the weekend with a 3-2 record.
-VCU delivered an 11-7 win over Coastal Carolina in its last game on March 9. Meghan McLaughlin scored a game-high three goals along with one ground ball and one caused turnover, while Meghna Dawar made 12 saves.
-The Rams were predicted to finish sixth in the Atlantic-10 preseason poll.  
-VCU will take on Radford on March 16 prior to its game against the Phoenix. 
-The head coach of the Rams is Nicole Flores.
