ELON, N.C. – Elon University women's lacrosse dropped a 19-10 contest against High Point on March 16.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Panthers got going early as High Point took a 7-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.
-After the Panthers grew its lead to seven (10-3),
Gillian Curran ignited a 3-0 run with her 16
th goal of the season to bring the Phoenix within four (10-6) with 6:06 remaining in the first half. High Point answered with a 3-0 run of its own as time ran out to make the halftime score 13-6.
-The two teams scored a combined three goals in the third period, with the lone Elon goal coming from
Hannah McCarthy.
-Following a Panther goal within the first minute of the fourth quarter,
Sammy Fisher,
Cierra Hopson and
Cate Mackel found the back of the net to cut the High Point lead to six (16-10). But three unanswered goals by the Panthers in the final 10 minutes of play secured the win for High Point.
NOTES
-Fisher, Mackel, Stephan and Hopson led the Phoenix in scoring with two goals apece. Hopson also had a pair of assists to total a team-high four points on the day.
-Curran recorded a team-high seven draw controls in addition to chipping in one goal and one assist, while
Abbey Rose followed with a career-high five draws.

Lyndsey Morhardt registered a game-best three caused turnovers for a new personal best
-
Kailee Follette led the team in ground balls (4) and was just one caused turnover behind Morhardt with two. She also had one draw control.
-In the cage,
Paige Brown matched her career-high in saves (5), which she set last month in the season opener against Virginia.
