ELON, N.C. – Elon University baseball and Army meet for a three-game series at Latham Park this weekend, March 18-20. Friday's series opener is scheduled for 4 p.m., Saturday's game will start at 2 p.m. and Sunday's finale will have a 1 p.m. first pitch.

THE SERIES
- Elon and Army are meeting for the first time this weekend.

SCOUTING THE BLACK KNIGHTS
- Army played three games at No. 21 TCU last weekend, losing all three games to the Horned Frogs.
- TCU won both games of a doubleheader last Saturday with a three-run walk-off home run in Game One and a walk-off walk in the 10th inning in Game Two. The Black Knights (3-11) then fell 5-2 in Sunday's series finale.
- Ross Frederick leads Army's starters with a .309 clip, Sam Ruta is hitting .292 and Kevin Dubrule owns a .271 average.
- Frederick has driven in a team-high 10 runs while Ruta has hit a team-best two home runs and three triples.
- Army is batting .235 as a team with a .317 slugging percentage and a .346 on-base percentage.
- Patrick Melampy is expected to make the start on Friday, Connelly Early will throw on Saturday and the Black Knights will go with Robbie Buecker on Sunday.
- Army's pitchers own a combined 5.61 ERA with opponents batting .263 against them. The Black Knights have recorded 105 strikeouts through 118.2 innings.
- Through games played on March 16, Army is fourth in the nation in double plays per game (1.14), 11th in double plays (16), 39th in triples (5) and 40th in triples per game (0.36).
- Ruta is fifth nationally with three triples and 10th with 0.21 triples per game. Tyler Prichard ranks 24th with nine appearances while Hunter Meade is 36th in sacrifice bunts (3) and 40th in sacrifice bunts per game (0.21).
- The Black Knights were picked to repeat as Patriot League champions in the conference's Preseason Poll. Army garnered 10 first-place votes and 50 total points and was represented on the Preseason All-Patriot League Team by Anthony LoRicco, Early, Dubrule, Ruta and Nick Manesis.
- Cam Cerruto was named to the 2022 Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Watch List last Friday.
- Dubrule was tabbed the Patriot League Player of the Week on Tuesday after batting .550 (11-for-20) with one double, one triple, three RBIs and four runs through five games. Additionally, Buecker earned an honorable mention after holding the No. 21 Horned Frogs to one run on four hits with four strikeouts through 6.0 innings.

ABOUT THE PHOENIX
- Elon came up just short on Tuesday as the Phoenix (9-7) fell to No. 29 NC State 2-1 at Latham Park.
- The maroon and gold had the tying run 90 feet away, but the Wolfpack turned a 6-3 double play to hold on.
- The Phoenix is currently third in the CAA standings behind UNCW (9-6) and Charleston (10-7).
- Charlie Granatell leads Elon's starters with a .317 batting average. Following him are Alex Iadisernia (.286) and Luke Stephenson (.275).
- Samuel Frontino leads Elon with 14 runs and 12 walks while Iadisernia is the leader in extra-base hits (9) and RBIs (18).
- As a team, the Phoenix is batting .231 with a .376 slugging percentage and a .357 on-base percentage.
- Elon's projected rotation for the series will see Joe Savino on Friday, Brian Edgington on Saturday and Cole Reynolds on Sunday.
- The Phoenix owns a team ERA of 4.10 with 146 strikeouts through 145.0 innings pitched. Opponents are hitting .277 against them.
- Elon is currently ranked fourth nationally in walks allowed per nine innings (2.23), eighth in strikeout-to-walk ratio (4.06), 11th in double plays (16), 13th in double plays per game (1.00), 27th in sacrifice bunts (10), 39th in triples (5) and 50th in walks (84).
- Iadisernia is 18th in the country with three sacrifice flies and Kyle Greenler is 19th with three wins. Savino ranks 23rd with a 12.50 strikeout-to-walk ration and is 26th with 0.82 walks allowed per nine innings. Edgington is the CAA's co-leader in strikeouts with 30.

 HASKIN NAMED CAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
- Parker Haskin was named the league's Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.
- Haskin hit .556 (5-for-9) with a .667 slugging percentage and a .636 on-base percentage in Elon's three games this past week. He added one double, two runs scored, two walks and five RBIs to his totals and collected a hit in all three games.
- It marked his first career CAA weekly honor.

UP NEXT
Elon is on the road in Greenville, N.C. next Wednesday, March 23 for a 6:30 p.m. game at East Carolina.
