RICHMOND, Va. – Sam Bacon of the Elon University men's soccer team was recognized by the Colonial Athletic Association as the Institutional Male Scholar-Athlete award winner, presented by Premis, for the Phoenix as announced by the league office on Thursday, March 24.
A native of Richmond, Va., Bacon has compiled a 3.97 grade point average as a Statistics and Computer Science major. The three-year starter and team captain was selected as the recipient of the 2020-21 Colonial Athletic Association's Leadership and Sport Excellence Award, an award presented to a student-athlete who represents the highest standards of teamwork, integrity, leadership and sportsmanship in his or her academic and athletic achievements. This past fall, Bacon was also tabbed to the 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-Distric Team 3 first team.
On the field, Bacon played in all 19 matches this season for the Phoenix, helping Elon reach the CAA Tournament final for the first time. The midfielder tallied an assist at Triad rival High Point on Sept. 15 and played every minute of a match five times in 2021.
Hofstra's men's soccer player Hendrik Hebbeker was named the league's Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Each of the CAA's 10 nominees for the CAA Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year presented by Primis will be recognized with a crystal award.
