SPRING OVERVIEW SERIES
Defensive Backs
Elon's youthful offensive line was a question mark heading into the 2021 fall season. What a difference a year makes. The Phoenix now boasts a veteran offensive line with five returning starters that should be a strength of the team.
Â
"The offensive line finished the 2021 season with our two strongest rushing performances of the year," Offensive Line Coach
Andy Marino said. "We look forward to building off of those performances this spring. Our focus will be on daily improvements, specifically with our football acumen, technique, effort and group camaraderie."
Â
Redshirt sophomore
Zane Gilbert (left tackle), sophomore
Caleb Krings (left guard) and redshirt sophomore
Jabril Williams (right guard) started all 11 games a year ago. True sophomore
Kevin Burkett took over at right tackle and started each of the final nine games. Redshirt senior
Michael Purcell was the starting center to open the 2021 year but played in just three games before an injury cut his season short.
Â
Williams, in particular, was an anchor. Pro Football Focus ranked him fifth nationally in pass blocking among all guards in the country. He was ranked No. 15 among all offensive linemen.
Â
But Elon boasts a combination of experience, youth and talent behind those five as well. Redshirt sophomore
Jack Cutler has played in nine contests in his career but missed the 2021 fall season. Redshirt sophomore
Luis Duarte played in nine games in the fall to add to the depth. Redshirt freshmen
Caleb Archer,
Zach Richardson,
Luke Duska and
Solomon Height have prepared to make an impact this fall. Redshirt freshman
Sam Levin recently moved from the defensive side of the ball to offensive line and will look to contribute.
Â
True freshman
Leighton Lee V is an early enrollee and will take part in spring practice. The Phoenix will add three more freshmen for the fall in
Timothy Hogan,
Ahmarion McLeod and
Carlos Moore.
