ELON, N.C. – Elon University baseball is back at Latham Park this Tuesday, March 8 as the Phoenix (6-5) hosts No. 3 Notre Dame for a 4 p.m. game.

THE SERIES
- Notre Dame won the only game between the two programs 7-0 during the 1963 season.
SCOUTING THE FIGHTING IRISH
- In the latest polls released on March 7, Notre Dame is ranked No. 3 in the nation by Baseball America. The National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association (NCBWA) lists the Fighting Irish (8-1) at No. 7, Collegiate Baseball and USA Today has them at No. 8, and D1 Baseball ranks them at No. 9.
- ND played in the 2022 Cambria College Classic this past weekend at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minn. The Irish opened the Classic with a 6-1 win over Illinois on Friday before defeating Michigan State 2-1 on Saturday. ND then capped off its weekend by beating the Classic hosts Minnesota, 3-1 on Sunday.
- ND has six starters batting over .300. David LaManna leads the way at .444, TJ Williams is next at .400 and Jared Miller followed with a .346 average. Brooks Coetzee and Ryan Cole are both hitting .333 and Carter Pulz is close behind them at .323.
- The Irish own a team batting average of .304, a .487 slugging percentage and a .381 on-base percentage. ND's bats have combined for 32 extra-base hits with 16 doubles, seven triples and nine home runs.
- Freshman left-handed pitcher Jack Findlay is expected to make his first career start.
- ND's pitchers have a 1.46 ERA as a team and have recorded 105 strikeouts against 26 walks in 80.1 innings pitched. Opposing teams are batting .178 against them.
- ND leads the country with a .994 fielding percentage, is second in ERA, third in WHIP (0.93), and sixth in hits allowed per nine innings (5.49) and triples per game (0.78).
- Notre Dame was picked to finish third in the Atlantic Division in the Atlantic Coast Conference's (ACC) Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Irish received three first-place votes and 70 total points.
ABOUT THE PHOENIX
- Elon earned a 2-1 series win over Toledo with a 3-1 victory against the Rockets on Sunday. Brian Edgington held the visitors scoreless through seven innings and finished with one run allowed on six hits to improve to 2-0. He struck out six batters and didn't walk anyone in the 7.2-inning start. Kyle Greenler took over the remaining 1.1 innings and earned the save.
- Elon baserunners stole safely in 11-of-11 attempts this past weekend. The team is now 18-for-19 on the season.
- The series was the first meeting between the two programs. Elon improved to 17-10 all-time versus Mid-American Conference (MAC) schools.
- After falling 13-6 in the series opener, Elon pitching limited Toledo to just three runs and a .214 average in the final two games. The Phoenix struck out 19 batters and issued just one walk between Saturday and Sunday.
- Charlie Granatell leads Elon's starters with a .318 average, though Alex Iadisernia is on his heels at .310.
- The Phoenix is batting .224 as a team and owns a .362 slugging percentage and a .358 on-base percentage. Elon has tallied 77 hits so far this season, to include 17 doubles, three triples and eight home runs.
- Ian Evans is expected to get the nod for the maroon and gold on Tuesday. It will be his second start of the season.
- Elon has a team ERA of 4.27 with opponents hitting .271. The Phoenix has totaled 108 strikeouts with just 20 walks through 97.0 innings.
- Elon ranks second in the country in walks allowed per nine innings (1.86), third in strikeout-to-walk ratio (5.40), 16th in sacrifice bunts (8) and 39th in bases on balls (61). Greenler is 28th nationally with six appearances and Iadisernia ranks 39th with two sacrifice flies.

Elon's home game originally scheduled for Wednesday, March 9 has been canceled. The Phoenix will host the first two games of a three-game series versus UNC Greensboro on Friday and Saturday, March 11-12. The teams will then play the series finale on Sunday, March 13 in Greensboro, N.C.
