HIGH POINT, N.C. – Several new personal-bests reigned during the final day of the VertKlasse Meeting for the Elon University women's track and field team as the Phoenix wrapped up competition on Saturday, April 2, at Vert Stadium on the campus of High Point University.
Piper Jons ran the second-fastest time in school history in the 400-meters, setting a new personal-best in the race at 54.34 and was second overall.
Aliya Barrows set a new season-best time of 56.88 in the race and was ninth.
Alyssa Sandy was second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.64, a new season-best for the Brooklyn, N.Y., native.
Meghan Wilcox was fifth in the 100-meters with her time of 11.85 while
Jordan Haywood was ninth at her time of 12.30. Wilcox followed with a fifth-place standing in the 200-meters with a time of 24.96.
The Phoenix's 4x400-meter relay team of Jons, Barrows,
Tessa DiPierdomenico and
Riley Drometer was second overall with a time of 3:52.20. Drometer was Elon's leader in the 400-meter hurdles with a new personal-best time of 1:02.76 and was fourth overall. DiPierdomenico also set a new personal-record with her time of 1:03.76 and was seventh overall.
In the women's 800-meters,
Sabrina Mannes was fifth with a personal-best time of 2:14.77.
Madison George was ninth in the "A" pole vault with a cleared height of 3.80m.
Alexa Mark was Elon's top finisher in the long jump with a leap of 5.32m in 12
th.
Kaitlin McGoogan led the Phoenix in the hammer throw with a throw of 54.04m in third overall.
Lauryn Carlton was sixth with a toss of 51.05m. McGoogan paced the Phoenix in the discus elite with a throw of 42.58m in 10
th.
