ELON, N.C. – Elon University women's lacrosse came up short in its final home game of the regular season on April 23, 14-13.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Dragons jumped out to an early 4-0 with 6:48 left in the first quarter. However, the Phoenix scored three of the next four goals to cut the Drexel lead in half heading into the second period (5-3).
-
Sammy Fisher and
Bella Feldmann scored the final pair of Elon goals in the half as the Dragons grew its lead to six (11-5) at the intermission.
-After Drexel scored the first two goals of the third quarter, Elon went on an 8-0 run that was sparked by a free position goal from
Mikaela Buoscio to tie the game at 13 with 7:17 remaining in the final frame.
Hannah McCarthy and
Gillian Curran both registered a pair of scores in the run.
-Hayleigh Simpson scored the game-winning goal on a free position shot to secure the win for the Dragons (4:39). Elon managed to get three shots off in the remaining time, but none found the back of the net as Drexel came away with the 14-13 victory.
NOTES
-Curran paced the Phoenix with four goals and one assist. The senior also added two draw controls and two ground balls.
-Feldmann finished with a hat trick on five shots while collecting two ground balls.
-McCarthy rounded out the top three Elon players in scoring with two goals on four shots.
-Freshman
Emma Flynn scored her first goal of her career in addition to posting a team-best six draw controls for a season high.
-In goal, Brown tallied seven saves for her fifth consecutive game with five or more stops.
-With the loss, Elon falls to 5-10 (1-4 CAA).
-Prior to the game, the Phoenix honored its seven graduating seniors: Brown, Curran, Mackel,
Carleigh Goldstein, Feldmann,
Lyndsey Morhardt and
Charlotte Pedlow.
