ELON, N.C. – Elon University women's tennis head coach
Elizabeth Anderson announced the signings of Helen Sarikulaya and transfer Miray Konar on Monday, May 9.
"We are very excited about the signing of Helen and Miray," Anderson began. "They are both very talented, well-disciplined, and highly motivated, and join fall signee Madison Cordisco to make an outstanding recruiting class. We look forward to their arrival on campus this fall."
HELEN SARIKULAYA
A native of Rockville, Md., Sarikulaya joins the Phoenix after attending Thomas S. Wootton High School. During her time at Wootton High School, she was a co-captain of the girl's tennis team, competing primarily in the No. 1 position. In her career, she won the Girls 4A Singles Maryland State Championship twice (2021, 2022), earning her the title of #1 ranked girl's tennis player in Maryland for the class of 2022 on Tennis Recruiter.
Sarikulaya has also achieved a rank as high as #7 in the country in the USTA G18's Rankings, has been ranked as highly as #55 in the class of 2022 on Tennis Recruiting, has been mentioned on the Tennis Recruiter "Hot 100 List" twice and earned MVP Player of the Year honors at the OSSA Adidas National Tennis Academy. A multi-sport athlete, this four-year varsity letter winner also participated in soccer, softball, cross country, and indoor track at Wootton HS. In addition, Helen is committed to service and was involved in "Small Things Matter" (an organization that helps families in need during COVID).
She will join the maroon and gold in August of 2022 with plans to major in Music.
MIRAY KONAR
A native of Izmir, Turkey, Konar heads to Elon after spending last season at Western Carolina. During her time with the Catamounts, she earned Southern Conference All-Freshman honors, competing primarily in the No. 2 spot. In her career thus far, she has compiled a 7-5 mark in singles play and a 10-6 mark in doubles play.
This past season, Konar picked up key victories versus Clemson, Gardner-Webb, Appalachian State, Southeast Missouri, Mercer and UNC Greensboro. The incoming sophomore also finished with a 7-3 mark in No. 2 doubles, earning victories against the likes of Clemson, South Carolina State, Appalachian State, UNC Greensboro, Kennesaw State and Wofford. Prior to her time at Western Carolina, Konar attended Doga College Private High School where she earned a national ranking as high as #3 for her age group and as high as #11 overall in Turkey.
She will join the maroon and gold in August of 2022 with plans to major in Business.
