Elon, N.C. - The Elon football team concluded fall camp Saturday night with a scrimmage under the lights. The Phoenix now turns the attention to Vanderbilt for Saturday's season opener (7:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. CT). A balanced scrimmage saw both sides of the football make big plays, highlighting the progress the team has made through fall camp.

"I've seen a lot of growth," Head Coach
Tony Trisciani said following the scrimmage. "Today, there were explosive plays on both sides of the ball. It was good to see the offense threaten the defense vertically. Defensively, we created some turnovers and pressured the quarterback."
Jalen Hampton, a transfer running back from Virginia Tech, had a big day. He had a 42-yard run and a rushing touchdown in the exhibition. He is one of a strong stable of running backs in the program.
"Coming in as a transfer, the rest of the running backs have had my back from the beginning," Hampton said. "I really appreciate them. Sometimes it's hard as a transfer and as a new guy; I really have the utmost respect for them."
Following Saturday's contest at Vanderbilt, a 63-10 winner Saturday night at Hawaii, Elon will travel to Wofford for a 6:00 p.m. contest on Sept. 10. The Phoenix will finally play in front of the home fans on Saturday, Sept. 17, hosting Gardner-Webb at 6:00 p.m. inside Rhodes Stadium. The full schedule can be viewed by

"What we want is earned, not given," Trisciani said. "We've got to earn it every day by practicing with a purpose and being resilient. When everyone in our program wakes up Sunday morning, there's going to be a heightened sense of urgency. We're going to crank it up."
