ELON – Elon linebacker Brodie Carroll was named to the Buck Buchanan Award preseason watch list, Stats Perform announced Tuesday. The award is presented annually to the national defensive player of the year in FCS football.
 
The recognition comes one day after Carroll was named a second-team Stats Perform FCS Preseason All-American.
 
A second-team All-CAA selection in 2025, Carroll led Elon with 104 tackles during his first season with the Phoenix. He also recorded 9.5 tackles for loss and enters the 2026 season with a streak of three consecutive games with double-digit tackles.
 
Carroll is the second Elon defender during head coach Tony Trisciani's tenure to be named to the Buck Buchanan Award preseason watch list. The Haymarket, Virginia, native joins Caleb Curtain, who earned the recognition in 2024.
